Although Siem Reap is most famous for its temples, many travelers ignore that Cambodian food is a very delicate cuisine and that you happen to be in the best place to sample it! In addition to having great Khmer restaurants, Siem Reap also offers an incredible array of high-quality foods from around the world, so whether you are craving a tradition fish amok or looking for the best breakfast in Siem Reap, I have you covered either way. Some of my recommendations are already famous, other are still a best kept local secret so dive in and enjoy!
BREAKFAST & BRUNCH IN SIEM REAP
Malis
Serves an incredible all you can eat breakfast for $7. The setting is beautiful, and the restaurant serves a variety of both Cambodian and international food options. The offer includes unlimited coffee, tea and juices. Plan to take your time as the restaurant really deserves an extra glance!
Footprints
This place offers a very nice ambiance for my digital nomad crowd. Air-conditioning, great wifi and amazing food options, this is the place for you if you are looking to get work done! There is also a lovely terrace if you would rather sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. Their focus is on making their coffee shop as sustainable as possible and to do so, they have gotten rid of all plastics! I recommend trying the delicious passion fruit and banana pancakes.
New Leaf Eatery
Is an all time favorite of mine. Set in a semi-outdoors space, the café has an impressive selection of colorful cold-pressed juices and smoothies. They also sell bamboo toothbrushes if you are looking to up the sustainability of your toiletry bag. This place is also great for dinner and drinks.
Bang Bang Bakery
If you are in Siem Reap and craving some baked goods and bread, then you absolutely must pop-in by Bang Bang Bakery. They have the best bagels and gluten free chocolate muffins in town. Be mindful that they only accept cash and the price of their bagels start at $2.25 a piece with cream cheese included.
LUNCH IN SIEM REAP
Vibe
This restaurant is one of the only all vegan restaurant in town! Offering great smoothie and gain bowl options, this is the place for you if you are looking to treat your body with some healthy and nutritious foods. Vibe has an impressively large menu and a cute upstairs seating area which you might also find fitting for all your digital needs.
Sister Srey
Although quite popular and therefore quite crowded, Sister Srey stays one of my favorite restaurant in town. Their semi-outdoors space is luminous and inviting and their menu offers a great selection of brunch and lunch food. If you are looking for a banger avocado toast, Sister Srey has your back. This restaurant is also very engaged in preserving the environment and they run a shop in which they sell ethically and sustainably produced accessories and clothes.
DINNER IN SIEM REAP
Cuisine Wat Damnak
Is the only place on this list I haven’t personally tried, but the reason is I could never get a reservation! If you a true adventurous foodie, you must check out Cuisine Wat Damnak. I have heard so many amazing things about this restaurant it almost makes for a reason to come back to Siem Reap soon. This fine dining experience offers a weekly changing set-menu using fresh, seasonal and local produce.
Atmosphere
This place is affordable, delicious and very friendly. The owner, Mo, is a character and makes this restaurant one of the favorites amongst the local expatriate community. A mix of Lebanese and Mediterranean eats, Atmosphere is the best place to eat hummus and falafels. Be warned that they do not sell alcohol, but Mo welcomes his guests to go buy beers next door, if they so wish.
Khmer 652
One of my favorite Khmer cuisine restaurants in town! The restaurants prides itself in using fresh, organic and local ingredients and is lodged in the trendy Kandal village. The space is indoor, air-conditioned and elegant and the prices, very affordable.
Marum
Run by Kaliyan Mith, an NGO working with street children in Siem Reap, Marum makes for a supporting a worthy and delicious cause! Set in a traditional wooden villa surrounded by its lush gardens, the restaurant offers a traditional array of Cambodian foods served in the tapas style. This restaurant is also a training school and harbors a non-profit run shop named Friends International which sells products ranging from funky reshaped spoon earrings to re-purposed tire decorations. Get inspired!
Mama Shop
If you are craving pasta, search no more. With hand and home-made pasta, Mama Shop sets itself apart with a cozy and dim atmosphere, great pasta and pizza, and most importantly, a good selection of wine!
